lIFE TAUGHT ME
yesterday i was called to give a talk on a certain occasion that was meant to motivate the attendees and i really was not prepared to do that, as i found my way to the podium i was thinking what would i tell all this young men who wee pregnant with expectation, until the thought of my experience and encounters hit me and i knew that i had the best experience.
possibly you would find some few lessons from this.
am barely 23 years old but the things have gone through are really worth learning from no matter how old or young you are.since i was in college, i went to study mass communication and journalism, i had been living with two brothers in the same single room house, until one of them moved and we were left with the eldest, somewhere along the journey another friend moved in with us and mind you both were working and i was the only one not working.
i was born in a family that was not well off though we always had food on our table except when we dint, so my way through college i barely managed to finish, i still haven't graduated three years down the line but am not complaining, i thank God for everything.
so one of the room mates started drinking so much that he could go a week without coming back home, until one morning he texted us and said he needed to stay along therefore we should move out.at the time we were in good times with this other guy so we found another house and rented him paying the rent since i was not working.we had a good time together until one June Saturday morning this guy called me and told me that his sister who had just given birth would be moving in with him and she could not take the couch with the baby so i should find a place to move to.
i can remember vividly that evening when i went to my mum to inform her on the occurrence and the first thing she asked me was "where are your clothes?" then she told me "settle in God is preparing you for a blessing"
until today i have not forgotten her words because each of those happened to me.
at this time i use to get weekly deliveries which earned me 200 a week.but to me it was much more than nothing at all.
on the 27th of june i got a call from one of my uncles at exactly 0651hrs and all he said was " there is a temporary job at Mahindra along Mombasa road, someone has gone on leave and they need an urgent replacement so you need to be there by 0700hrs.
i couldn't sleep anymore went there and was given a contract running up to 3 weeks after which she would come back from leave and i would go by my idling business as usual.
at Mahindra i did my best, possibly all that i could, i knew that it doesnt matter how much time you spent with people make sure you do it right and leave a mark.
after my three weeks i went back to the Hr to ask for my payment and see if she could extend my terms of contract since some new toilets had been built and at that point i would mind any type of work as long as it earned me money.the only reply i got was "if we need you we will call you"
i knew it was a lie so i was glad that i had worked for three weeks at 1000 bob per day was too much for someone who earned 200 a week.
on Sunday evening we caught up with a friend who offered to buy us one of those cheap alcohol that i have never forgotten until today, it was the first time ever that i went to my mum's house dead drunk, at least i dint have an option, but that's not important as of now.
the next day i switched on my phone at around 8:30am and less than 15 minutes on i got a call from the Hr department xylon motors asking whether i could report to work, i just told the person on the other end to give me 30 minutes and i would be there and on arrival i was allocated to the washrooms, for a two months contract.i worked and worked and did my best until the contract kept being extended until December. Now this was the beginning of my troubles.
on 24th December a day after we closed for the December holidays, i was with two of my friends catching some fun after the Christmas eve mass.and at around 0100 hrs as we were shifting from a club to another we met head on with a gang of robbers who surrounded us, robbed us of cash and mobile phones and we escaped with injuries, so you bet i never celebrated Christmas, i was nursing wounds at home, at least my girlfriend then was there with me,consoling me and playing my doctor and lucky enough by 27th i had recovered well and was now 98% okay.
but then this was just the beginning of a whole new phase of my life.
the other part of my life and experience comes up in the second phase.
