HOW ABOUT WE TALK ABOUT JUNE.
For a start I will not talk about June babies, my apologies for this but Happy birth month to you'll, And apologies it took me so much time to talk to some People even though not all about this topic.
Today I will talk about Men mental health and how we don’t talk about it all year round but just 30days in a Year.
As A Man I would like to share the code 101 which is; when matters mental health are put on the table there are two things, its either depression or anxiety. Mostly for men Addressing these issues requires breaking down societal stigmas, improving access to care, and creating supportive environments
I wish to kindly share my thoughts on creating supportive environment.
According to WHO researches, it has been proven without reasonable doubt that Men do not find it in themselves to open on their weaknesses, and they would rather sink in than keep afloat with shame. Social barriers, such as stigma, fear of judgment, and difficulty in expressing their emotions, prevent many men from seeking help, according to the AAMC.
Luckly in Kenya there is some support systems of which as Men we should never shy away from, shading tears is not a weakness and calling a friend for help should not be a judgment. If I call You out for help You shouldn’t take it to the court of public opinion just so that the jury(our shared friends) can strip me naked.
Below is just a few details as per research I did courtesy of NIMH. (Clear to note the below details are not by my own work but from a group of thoughts that I share).
Importance of Support:
Addressing men's mental health requires breaking down stigmas, improving access to care, and providing support to help them navigate these challenges.
Resources and Support:
Kenya Red Cross: Offers mental health support and counseling services.
Befrienders Kenya: Provides emotional support and a helpline for those in need.
Chiromo Lane Medical Centre: Specializes in mental health services, both inpatient and outpatient.
Basic Needs Kenya: Focuses on community-based mental health support.
I sincerely hope that this information helps us all to keep another Man alive until the next June and We can send some flowers to each of them before we lay a bouquet.
Kindly,
Kwatemba.
